Dress code: Business Formal

next week i have an important meeting for which the dress code is business formal. now i don't have a problem with dressing a bit more conservative from what i'm used to, the problems i have are: one - i only have one pair of pants that fit me since i gained some weight in paris and two - i don't have formal clothes in general. so i guess my outfit will take a lot of improvisation and ingenuity.
the classic case of business formal consists of a white or other subtile color blouse, elegant straight cut tuxedo trousers in black (or gray) or knee lenght pencil skirt, black pumps with medium-high heel, matching tuxedo jacket or blazer or in my case trench coat, medium-sized bag in subtile colors and mininalistic jewelry. it sounds pretty boring but with little details it can actualy look great. you can replace pumps with oxford shoes or loafers, choose a blouse with a print or a jacket with a asymmetric cut. possibilities are endless. i'm thinking of choosing a black dress instead of a blouse and trousers combo, what do you think?
